Are you teachable or unreachable?
Remember that you will never know everything. And a lot of life lessons are learned from a child, because they do not worry about who is looking or afraid of failure. They just want to succeed. They will fall 100 times but still stand up and try to give their first step. And just look at a child when someone explains something new to them. They are listening with excitement and question that person until they are satisfied, they understand.
The problem with us adults is that we listen to give our opinion and by doing this we miss important facts and sometimes cause unnecessary conflict.
You are not always right, you make mistakes, and you need help. It does not matter who wants to give you advise, criticism or try to help you, treat everyone with the necessary respect. “You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” James 1:19 NLT
Make sure you measure your actions and words against the advice or criticism you receive – most important also against God’s Word - before you try to defend yourself.
We as children of God should strive to become more like Jesus, and we need to be teachable.
“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.”
Proverbs 19:20 NLT
“If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
Proverbs 13:18 NLT
“Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.”
Proverbs 9:9 NLT
“Get wisdom; develop good judgment.”
Proverbs 4:5 NLT
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
Joshua 1:8 NLT
